Achievements of the Council
a) Provision of quality leadership to the arts – there is
now order in the administration of the arts associations. This has
helped to attract funding from the co-operating partners.
b) All forms of the arts have been encouraged to flourish. This
is evidenced by the number of associations that have been registered
with the Council since 1996. From the original three associations,
there are now nine registered ones – with more still craving
to be registered.
c) The Council has set up an Art Development Fund which benefits
upcoming individual artists (both male and female) from all the
national arts associations; new associations and other specific
art projects e.g.; recording and production of music. In future,
one –off scholarship requests from individual artists will
be handled from this fund.
d) All arts associations, unlike in the past, have their books
of accounts audited before subsequent funds can be released to them.
This has ensured, transparency and accountability in the use of
public funds.
e) Organisation and hosting of the Ngoma awards – where deserving
Zambian artists are awarded for their artistic merit and achievement.
The Ngoma Awards have inspired the Zambian artists to attain higher
levels of excellence and have encouraged artistic performances at
the grassroot level.
f) There is now a marked proliferation of artistic activities in
all the various art disciplines – Performing, Literary, Media,
and Visual Arts.
