The National Arts Council of Zambia is a statutory body established
under Act No: 31 of 1994 of the Laws of Zambia. It is the
overall co-ordinating body of all artistic activities in the
country. The Council is made up of eight national arts
associations which represent various arts disciplines within the
performing, literary, visual and media. Included in the eight
associations is an Adjudicators panel which carries out
adjudication and monitors arts standards.
REGISTRATION OF ARTS
ASSOCIATIONS AND GROUPS
From January 2009,the office of Registrar of arts
associations was transferred to National Arts Council of Zambia
from the Department of Cultural Services. The Council is
currently conducting the registration and re-registration of ALL
arts associations and groups in Zambia.
In order to be registered and/or re-registered as an Arts
Association in accordance with with the provision of the
National Arts Council of Zambia Act NO. 31 of 1994, and
statutory instrument No. 129 of 1995, all arts
associations/groups should submit their applications on NAC Form
I to the Registrar of Arts Associations.
All Arts Associations/groups in the Following categories
should apply:
- Arts Associations/groups
registered by the Registrar of Societies before 1996
- Arts Association/groups
registered by the Director of Cultural Services between 1996
and 2008
- All new and unregistered
Arts Associations/groups

Licensing
In accordance
with the provisions of the National Arts Council of Zambia Act
No. 31 of 1994, all individuals and institutions wishing to
promote and/or host any form of artistic activity in Zambia
including but not restricted to - music, dance, theatre, visual
arts - should by law obtain a Promoters’ Licence from the
National Arts Council of Zambia.
Individuals,
Night Clubs, Hotels and other such institutions are hereby
reminded that under this Act, it is an offence to promote and/or
host any artistic activity without a Promoters Licence.
It is also
an offence for any individual or institution to invite a foreign
artist to come and perform or conduct an arts activity in Zambia
without obtaining a Foreign Artists Clearance Certificate from
the National Arts Council of Zambia.
Both the Arts Promoter's
License and Clearance for Foreign Artists are available upon
filling in of NAC Form 4 and paying the appropriate fee.
Music Equipment
In an effort to sustain its operations in the face of
dwindling financial support,the Council with the support from
The Royal Norwegian Embassy acquired state of the art music
equipment for hire at competitive rates. It is hoped that
proceeds raised from hire of this Musical equipment will
supplement government efforts. The equipment is ideal for
concerts, album launches and other entertainment functions. For
